Megacross Underway!

Chase Sexton

After the weather shutting down the first attempt for Megacross round 1, tonight May 11th it was on! The weather again being a bit of an issue with a lot of wind during the day that did eventually die down. Right along side that was some nice cold weather, which I'm sure I'll be missing when its 100 degrees outside. The attendance was huge tonight having every class packed with riders ready to get Megacross underway! Coming along with that was some great battles out there as the action moved on through-out the evening.

A class heat raceIn the A class Maxx Malatia was out there determined to sweep the classes on his BWR Honda. During the heat races Malatia and Tommy Hofmaster where going back and forth all day. Open A was up first with Malatia grabbing the lead and never looking back. Hofmaster and Drew Yenerich on his Floplate Suzuki were close behind him for several laps. On the last lap Hofmaster got taken on the inside by Yenerich as Ty Tyrrell slipped in right behind him taking over third as they crossed the finish.  250 A was on the line a couple races later with everyone rested up and ready to launch. This gate drop gave way to Yenerich just barley taking the hole shot with Jody Walker right next to him. Walker fumbled just a little bit and wasn't able to hold the outside line as Hofmaster on the Mxstuff4u Yamaha and Malatia slipped in behind Yenerich. Coming down the straight-away Hofmaster was on the gas beating out Yenerich in the drag race to the turn to take over the lead. On the second lap in the exact spot Malatia runs the inside and gets by Yenerich with his sights set on Hofmaster. The three of them were packed up battling up front pulling away from the pack as Malatia went side-by-side with hofmaster over the two jumps leading to the finish.  Finally being able to go outside then inside through the S-curve and make it stick taking over the lead. Coming up to the white flag Yenerich got back around Hofmaster to take over second, but ran out of time as Malatia took the checkered flag and the win.

Nick Inman never short on styleThe B class was more of the same with some friendly rivalries playing out between Mark Marincic and Nick Inman.  In 250 B with a little drama at the back of the pack Marincic took off with the hole shot leaving Jacob Wever and Inman right in his lines.  They kept this pace up for a couple laps trying everything to make a move.  Inman was making a huge charge on the last two laps to get around Wever but was unable to make it leaving Marincic untouched the entire race for the win.  In Open B the battle continued with the top three.  Marincic got out front again this time Inman was right behind him followed by Wever.  The three battled it out with Inman looking all over for somewhere to pass, but wasnt able to make it before the checkers. This left Marincic sweeping B class in first, Inman in second and Wever held on for third.

Love watching the little rippers launching some jumpsThe racing tonight was as intense as ever with great battles keeping the crowd on their feet. Be sure to check out the Megacross website for race dates and stop by for some great stadium racing!  The track was in great shape and held up all night as the races cruised by as smoothly as ever. With a late start to all the midwest action this year everyone is itching to be out there and it shows.  With lots of new bikes and new faces as rider move up through the classes the racing will be going strong all summer. Stay tuned to Hardline for all your local and national racing news!
