Megacross Round 2!

This past Saturday started off Megacross round 2.  The weather was terrible all week, and today was no exception with rain plaguing the area.  On my way to the track it was raining out, but not terribly and Megacross doesn't close down for some sprinkles.  Upon arrival the track was looking mint, it wasn't muddy at all, just needed to wait the rain out for a little bit and races were on.  Just walking across the track I could tell it was in perfect shape, and talking to some of the riders confirmed it.  It was great night of racing with Kyle White back for his first race from his broken leg in the last round of Arenacross to give Maxx Malatia a run for his money.

Kyle White and Maxx Malatia battling it out in the heat racesComing out of the gates in 14*24 Brian Krohn took an early lead followed by Jacob Wever and Travis Ward flying in from the farthest outside gate to jump into line.  Coming around for the second lap Wever got around Krohn to take over the lead hitting the inside of the turn before the table tops.  Coming down through the whoops Krohn takes it high and gets on his KTM hard to get back into the lead.  Coming down the checkered flag Krohn held on for the lead as Ward makes a hard line to the inside of the last 2 corners and goes down almost making the pass for second, but gets it back running to hold on for third.

Wever and Krohn battle in the heatsComing out next with supermini on the line RJ Mackenzie gets out front for the holeshot followed closely by Ben Ibianskas and Cody Barnes . Barnes kicks it into high gear and blasts by Mackenzie and Ibankskas through the whoops to get out front for the lead.  Things heat up and Mackenzie is battling back and forth with Barnes coming up to the white flag.  Coming around on the last lap Mackenzie is still at it, but unable to make anything stick leaving Barnes with the win, Machenzie in second and Ibankskas rounding out the top three.

Cody BarnesThe A class was exciting as ever tonight with Kyle White back in the mix and Tom Hofmaster giving everyone a run for their money on his MXstuff4u Yamaha.  In Open A Maxx Malatia launched out front and never looked back with Hofmaster and Malachi Messenger right behind him.  Coming into the table top section White gets around Messenger to start putting the pressure on the front of the pack.  White was all over Hofmaster and finally got around him on the last lap and started to hunt down his team mate.  With not enough track left to make a move Malatia took the win on his newly aquired BWR Honda 450.

 Hofmaster out front in 250A

250A was a new story all together with 10 laps to run.  Malatia snagged the lead off the gate to have Hofmaster get around him in the third corner leaving White right behind them in third.  Hofmaster was riding hard out there as the laps ticked by. I could see Malatia going outside on the finish line turn and gaining ground every lap, but falling back a bit through the next sections. This battle raged on and Hofmaster held on out front for the 10 lap sprint.  On the final lap Malatia  made his outside line work and got around Hofmaster over the finish line as the white flag was waving.  White followed suit taking the inside and moving up into second.  They battled it out for the last lap, but nothing changed as Malatia took the win sweeping the A class once again.  White held out for Second place and looking ready as ever to race on his first night back while Hofmaster kept it together and took a solid third for the night.

Logan Skaggs checking out some heat racesAnother great battle tonight was 250 B. Coming off the line Mark Marincic took an early lead followed by Jacob Wever and Jake Cook.  Coming around the second corner Cook on the edge got by everyone taking over the lead with Wever and Marincic coming in behind him.  Coming around on the second lap Wever moved into the lead while Travis Ward moved up to second and Cook was back in third battling for the front.  Wever and Ward were starting to make a gap as Marincic comes back from a bit of traffic and makes an aggressive pass through the table tops getting by Cook.  A little pushing and shoving through the next corners bring Marincic through still holding on to third place. With few laps left Wever held on and took the win followed closely by Ward and Marincic to end a great race.

Travis Ward C class was a packed house tonight filling up the gates.  When the gates dropped on 250 C Justin Peterson made a launch to take the holeshot with Justin Carr and Tanner Wanfield right behind him as the rest of the pack gets through the first turn without incident.  Coming through the table tops Peterson is starting to make a gap already as Wanfield gets around Carr to try chasing down Peterson.  Peterson has been riding good all season and certainly one to watch in the C class this summer.  Coming down to the final lap everything got shook up as Wanfield goes down, Cody Barnes and Austin Beaty both capitalized moving up around Carr.  Carr made a hard change back, but ran out of time as Peterson took the checkers followed by Barnes and Beaty to end the night on another great race.

It was an action packed night tonight out at Megacross, with the rain watering the track to perfection.  The series is moving on without a hitch as the summer is closing in fast.  Keep up with everything Megacross on their website.  The next round is scheduled for June 8th and we hope to see everyone out for some exciting racing!
