Megacross Round 6!

This past weekend kicked off another great round of Megacross as August is already upon us.  The summer certainly does fly by right along with the racing.  Tonight had some great battles as always with a great turn out. Ross Martin was out at the track along with Travis Sewell on a break from the nationals.  The new back section of the track was all tweaked and ready to go making things interesting for everyone as the lights kicked on and the races got underway.

Some great racing went down tonight, lots of battles back and forth.  In 125 Travis Ward and Robbie Hyson were going at it the entire race it was intense.  Coming off the line Ward took the lead followed by Hyson and RJ Mackenzie.  Coming through the first set of whoops Mackenzie got by Hyson for second, but was passed back through the table tops as he was on a mission to the front.  Ward led the race for three laps when coming up to the finish line Hyson went high through bowl turn to take over the lead.  Coming back down through the tables Ward was on the gas and got back by him on the straight for the white flag, then the checkers leaving Ward with the win, with Hyson and Mackenzie rounding things out.

Supermini was an interesting race with an interesting end.  As they blasted off the line Jimmy Epifanio took the holeshot with Cody Barnes and RJ Mackenzie right behind him.  The three stayed up front moving away from the pack with Barnes looking for any way to get around to the front.  On the last lap and last jump Epifanio lost his pegs over the hill and basically did a superman, but was able land.  Although this wasn’t the ideal line to have and got passed by Barnes, but kept the bike running while I’m sure in a bit of pain.  They crossed the finish with Barnes taking the win, Epifanio held on to second and Mackenzie grabbing third.

Once again things got interesting with Open B lining up or action.  Off the drop Joey Fortune got out to an early lead followed by Mark Marincic and Damon Thomas.  Hitting the hairpin Marincic shot or the inside taking over the lead with fortune and Thomas charging hard.  Heading into the whoops Talan Hansen got the drop on Thomas moving up to third then hitting the table tops got around fortune for second.  On the third lap Mitch Cerda coming back from breaking his wrist earlier this year was on the charge from the back taking over third from fortune in the bowl turn.  He was battling it out with Hansen and on the last lap finally made a move stick for second after going side-by-side several times.  They crossed the finish with Marincic taking the win followed by Cerda and Hansen.

We had a great race in 85 9-13 tonight with Kaile Williams getting the holeshot with Thor Rick and Scotty Scamen in the hunt.  Coming through the second set of whoops Conner Burger was on the charge and made it around the outside to take over third from Scamen.  Keeping the moment going he pushed through getting right behind Rick looking for a way around.  Heading into the hairpin he found his line hitting the inside and rocketing out to take over second.  Up Front Williams was riding smooth and keeping it on two wheels starting to pull away, but Burger was closing in.  Coming across the line Williams took the win with Burger running out of time for as solid second, and at the last Minute Garrett Ward snuck it by Rick to take third.

In 40+ tonight the gates dropped down later in the evening with Steve Perkins getting out front to an early lead followed by Burton Lavens and Steven Barnes.  Blitzing through the whoops Lavens gets by Perkins hitting the off camber jump in the new back section of the track.  Moving in right behind Perkins was Jason Urban and he took over third.  Coming around on the second lap Urban made his move going low on the bowl turn making the pass up the hill for second and Perkins held on strong in third.  As the crossed the line Lavens took the win with Urban in second and Perkins in third.

Open A was quite the race with stuff happening all over the place tonight.  Coming up to the barrels Tom Hoffmaster was out front with Travis Sewell and Maxx Malatia charging hard.  Charging right around the barrel into the hairpin Hofmaster lost the front end going down and making a bit of traffic jam as Ross Martin jumps into the lead with Sewell behind and Kyle White now in third.  Heading into the table tops Malatia was cruising back to the front and gets by White to take over third as Martin and Sewell were battling it out for the lead.  Coming through the bowl turn side-by-side they made the slightest contact coming up the jump bringing Martin down out of whack and over the side of the bike off the track.  This unfortunately tweaked the bars too bad to make it back out there for the race as Malatia moved up to second and White in third.  On the fourth lap White made his move on Malatia down the straight to take back his spot as they charged on to catch Sewell.  The checkered flag came down on Sewell for the win with White and Malatia taking second and third.

There was some great racing tonight never a dull moment out there with all the races keeping things tight and interesting.  The C class was out in full force tonight with so many riders they separated into two classes for night.  Megacross is going strong with a lot coming up in the future.  Six rounds in the books with three left to go everyone is looking at their points and trying to hold it together for the end of the second.   The next Megacross battle is coming up August 18th be sure to come check it out!  You can find more information of all the events on their website and you can check out the full race results by Clicking Here.  As always for more photos from the evening you can find them all on my website.
