Megacross: Summer Begins

Megacross was back underway the weekend of June 25th and it was another hot day out in the Midwest.  The weather has been pretty brutal all spring and now that summer is officially here I’m sure it will keep getting worse.  This however does not stop some great racing under the lights as Megacross was prepped and ready for a great turn-out tonight of stadium racing along with the addition to some endurocross to move things along.  Megacross has also come up with a cool race deeming it the Dash for Cash.  This involves running a full lap of the stadium track and then moving on to run a full lap of the EX course. This made for some great racing with some the A riders going out to give it shot without ever really riding over logs and tires before.

Tommy Hofmaster who has been brushing up on his EX skills at home since Megacross started running these events took off out front and never looked back taking the win, as he did the last race out at the park.  Cody Barnes who started out as a woods rider and has moved up to the A class taking well to the stadium riding took second place giving Hofmaster a run for his money, literally.

Open A was a great race tonight with Chase Sexton in town for the next month before Loretta’s and will be moving to Florida shortly to train following his signing to the Geico Honda team.  Sexton grew up racing Megacross and this was his first time racing A class here and possible the last time he will be out at the track, it was cool to see him come out. The gates dropped with Kyle White putting his BWR Honda out front to grab the holeshot. Hofmaster was right on him coming into the hairpin and took over the lead jumping out into the whoops with Johnaton Sixx close behind in third.  Heading into the table tops Sexton came ripping through riding his 250 against all the 450’s gaining some traction to take over third.  On the third lap White came in hot down the straight and took the inside line from Hofmaster taking over the lead with Sexton right behind him shaking things up moving Hofmaster back to third.  It took two more lap for Sexton to finally make a pass stick as his passed White in the same spot after the straight to take over the lead and come across with his fisrt A class win at Megacross.  White would finish up second and Hofmaster held on for third in a very stacked A class tonight.  Sexton would go on to take the win in 250A as well sweeping the night and a great way to finish things off as he moves on to his Pro career.

It was a killer night of racing out at Megacross tonight, the EX course is always fun to watch with so many technical ways to get through the course and a nice change of pace that bring out the spectators to check out all the action.  Megacross is flying right along this summer with a slow start due to all the rain we had in the spring, but things are now moving along at full stride.  Be sure to check out for a full race schedule and put it on your calendar to come out and check out some great stadium racing here in the Midwest.
